Trauma-Informed Therapy

Grounded support for professionals and high-achievers working through trauma, anxiety, and the lasting impact of overfunctioning.

Many of us carry trauma in ways that aren’t always obvious—through overfunctioning, perfectionism, people-pleasing, or a constant drive to stay in control. Trauma-informed therapy offers a space to slow down, reflect, and begin to understand how what you’ve lived through still shapes your day-to-day life. In this work, we’ll honor the strategies that helped you survive while gently exploring what healing might look like now—with more choice, connection, and self-trust. This process is always approached with cultural humility and affirmation, especially for LGBTQ+ adults navigating trauma in a world that hasn’t always made space for them.

What is Trauma-informed Therapy?

Trauma-informed therapy is an approach that recognizes the profound and lasting effects of trauma — not just in our thoughts or memories, but in our nervous systems, relationships, and sense of identity. It’s grounded in the belief that you are not “too much” or “too sensitive,” but rather that your responses make sense given what you’ve lived through.

In trauma-informed therapy, you won’t be pushed to share more than you want to. We’ll work at a pace that feels manageable to you. The goal isn’t to fix you — it’s to understand what’s happened, how it still shows up, and how we can help you feel more whole, safe, and empowered moving forward.

How Trauma Affects Daily Life

Trauma doesn’t always look dramatic or obvious. It can show up subtly, shaping how you relate to others, how you move through the world, and how you treat yourself.

You might notice:

  • Always staying busy or productive to avoid feelings

  • Difficulty trusting others, or feeling emotionally distant

  • People-pleasing or overfunctioning at the expense of your own needs

  • Trouble sleeping, relaxing, or making decisions

  • Shame that shows up unexpectedly

  • A persistent sense of unsafety — even when things seem “fine”

Many of these responses are ways you learned to protect yourself. Together, we’ll honor the role they’ve played while gently exploring what healing could look like now.

My Approach to Trauma Work

I offer trauma-informed therapy that is:

  • Collaborative – You are the expert in your own experience. I will never pathologize or push you.

  • Relational – Healing happens in the context of safe connection. We’ll work together to build a space of trust, choice, and mutual respect.

  • Integrative – Our work may draw from EMDR, mindfulness, somatic awareness, DBT, and narrative or parts work, depending on your needs.

  • Affirming – My practice centers the experiences of LGBTQ+ adults, especially those navigating complex trauma, identity-based harm, and internalized oppression.

Culturally aware – I recognize the impact of systemic, cultural, and intergenerational trauma. You don’t have to explain everything — I’ll meet you with humility and care.

Is Trauma-informed therapy right for you?

If you’ve ever wondered whether your reactions “make sense” — or felt like you should be able to cope better — trauma-informed therapy might be a space where that weight can begin to lift.

This approach is often helpful for:

  • Adults who are anxious, high-achieving, and emotionally overwhelmed

  • People who struggle with boundaries, burnout, or chronic people-pleasing

  • LGBTQ+ individuals navigating identity, safety, and belonging

  • Survivors of childhood trauma, medical trauma, or attachment wounds

  • Those who feel disconnected from their emotions or bodies

If you’ve been holding a lot alone, therapy can be a place to set it down.
