EMDR Therapy
Heal the roots of trauma and anxiety with EMDR therapy, tailored for Maryland professionals carrying the weight of overfunctioning and past pain.
EMDR therapy is a powerful approach for healing the emotional and physiological effects of trauma—but it’s not just about processing the past. It’s about reclaiming your present. In EMDR, we use gentle, structured techniques to help your brain reprocess painful experiences so they no longer feel as activating or defining. This work is always centered around your pace, your needs, and your story. If your trauma is connected to systemic oppression or identity-based harm—as it often is for LGBTQ+ and gender-diverse adults—this space will hold that complexity with care and affirmation.
What is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured, evidence-based therapy designed to help people heal from the emotional and physiological effects of trauma. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (like eye movements, taps, or tones) to help your brain reprocess painful or overwhelming experiences so they no longer feel as charged, stuck, or defining.
You don’t need to talk in detail about your trauma for EMDR to work. Together, we’ll identify the experiences that are holding you back, strengthen your internal resources, and gradually process those memories so they feel less disruptive in your daily life.
EMDR is powerful, but it doesn’t rush you. It meets you exactly where you are.
How Unprocessed Trauma Shows Up
Many adults — especially those who’ve spent years overfunctioning or people-pleasing — don’t always realize how much trauma is driving their stress, anxiety, and exhaustion.
You may notice:
Flashbacks or vivid memories that come out of nowhere
Avoidance of certain places, people, or sensations
Chronic shame, self-doubt, or a sense that something’s "wrong" with you
Emotional numbness or feeling disconnected from your body
Perfectionism or emotional over-control as a way to stay safe
Feeling stuck — like you've tried everything, but something deeper still hurts
These responses aren’t signs of weakness. They’re signals that something in your nervous system hasn’t yet had the chance to heal.
My Approach to EMDR Therapy
I offer EMDR therapy that is:
Relational and grounding – Before we begin processing trauma, we’ll focus on building safety, trust, and a strong therapeutic foundation. You’ll never be rushed or asked to go somewhere emotionally you’re not ready for.
Flexible and integrative – EMDR is often most effective when woven together with mindfulness, parts work (like IFS), and DBT skills. We’ll use whatever supports your healing.
Culturally affirming – I bring a deep awareness of how trauma intersects with identity, systemic oppression, and lived experience. You are not a set of symptoms — you are a whole person.
Empowering – You remain in control. EMDR helps your mind and body do the healing work they’re naturally wired for, in a way that honors your pace.
Is EMDR therapy right for you?
EMDR may be a supportive approach if you:
Feel stuck in old patterns, despite insight or past therapy
Have distressing memories or body sensations you can’t shake
Experience anxiety, panic, or emotional overwhelm
Are living with the effects of childhood trauma, relational trauma, or identity-based harm
Are interested in a deeper, somatic path to healing — one that doesn’t require you to relive every detail of your pain
Whether you’re new to therapy or returning with new clarity, EMDR can help you move through what's holding you back — toward more freedom, stability, and connection.
